Obituary- Kratina, Sr., Ernest

Ernest L. Kratina Sr., 87, Topeka, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Colmery-OíNeil VAMC.

He was born Jan. 23, 1922, at Delia, the son of Frank E. Kratina and Bernice (Uhl). He graduated from Meriden High School and machinistís technical school at Chicago, Ill.

Ernest served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from Goodyear after 30 years of service. Mr. and Mrs. Kratina owned and operated three Hamburger Haven Cafes in Topeka. He also farmed and dealt in real estate. He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a current member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF & AM; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Arab Shrine Temple; Topeka North Post No. 400 of the American Legion; DAV; and ZCBJ Moravian Lodge No. 128.

Ernest was married to Wilma J. Hotzel on May 3, 1944, in Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Bradley G. Kratina, on Dec. 1, 1993.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son: Dr. Ernest L. Kratina Jr. of Delia; four daughters: Carol A. Harris of Topeka, Linda K. Ross of St. Louis, Mo., Sharon E. Brehm of Topeka, and Cynthia S. Schreiner of Topeka; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 18, at Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road. Masonic services will be conducted by Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM.
