HELEN KRATINA
Mrs. Helen Kratina, 84, rural Rossville, died Wednesday, June_15, 1983, at St. Marys Manor, where she was a resident.

She was born June 19, 1898 in Dolany, Czechoslavakia to Joseph and Mary Kropacek Hruska.

She served as a railway clerk in Dolany during World War I. Shortly after that, she came to the United States. She was a supervisor in the twine department and later was instructor of picture frame painting at McCormick’s in Chicago.

In 1932, Helen was married to John R. Kratina in Topeka. He died June 16, 1976.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Rossville.

For 22 years, Mrs. Kratina was financial secretary at the main office of the Western Fraternal Life Association of Cedar Rapids, la. Upon her retirement, she was awarded a plaque for excellent service. She was an active member of W.F.L.A. (ZCBJ) Lodge in Rossville; and served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and other charitable organizations.

Surviving her are one daughter, Mary Kratina, of the home; two sons, John D. Kratina, Rossville, and George Kratina, Silver Lake; and three grandchildren.

A wake service was held at 8:30 Friday evening at Verschelden Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment was in the Czech Moravan Cemetery northeast of Rossville. Casket bearers were John M. Kratna, John Howerton, Ben Stach, Bill Olejnik, Ernest Kratina, Sr., and Ernest Kratina, Jr. Frank Cerny and William Smatla were honorary casket bearers.
