Obituary- Kunkel, Anna
MRS. J. M. FRANKLIN’S
MOTHER DIED TUESDAY
Mrs. Anna Kunkel, 88, pioneer resident of Kansas, died at the Franklin home 1315 Garfield avenue, Topeka, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Kunkle came to Kansas from Pennsylvania in 1858 and settled in Rising Sun, a small frontier town in Jefferson county across the river from Lecompton. When Lecompton and Perry began growing Rising Sun was I abandoned. Only one house now remains on the old town site.
Mrs. Kunkle resided in the vicinity of Perry continuously until three years ago, when she came to Topeka to live with her daughter. Before a bridge was erected across the Kansas river at Perry, her husband operated a ferry there for several years She was a member of the Methodist church at Perry.
She is survived by three children, Mrs. J. M. Franklin, Topeka; J. W. Kunkle of Minto, Okla.; G. M. Kunkle, of Perry; ten grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the home, of her son, G. M. Kunkle at Perry, at 2 o’clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. Burial will be in the Perry cemetery.—Capital.
