Obituary- Mahon, Vernon

Vernon C.F. Mahon
Word has been received of the death of Vernon C.F. Mahon. He was born on November 12, 1917, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was raised in Silver Lake, Kansas, graduating from the elementary and high schools there. He passed away on November 25, 1954, at Corona Naval Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Mahon graduated from the University of Kansas in 1949. He was a member of the Acacia and the Mu Phi Epsilon fraternities. He spent 13 years of active service in the United States Navy serving in both World War II and the Korean campaign. He attained the rank of Lieutenant and was commanding officer of the USS Yuma A.T.F. 94 based at Pearl Harbor prior to his illness. He retired medically on August 31st of this year. At the time of his death, Mr. Mahon was employed as Scientific Technician at the Long Beach State College.

Mr. Mahon is survived by his wife, Margaret, a daughter, Meribeth, two sons, Robert Michael and Kelly Vernon, of 4439 Clark Avenue, Long Beach, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.G. Mahon of Silver Lake, Kansas.

He was a member of the First Methodist church of Silver Lake.

Military services and burial were held in the Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery at San Diego, California, at 11 o'clock on Wednesday morning, December 1st.
