Charles R. Manbeck
CHAPMAN — Charles R. Manbeck, 74, Chapman, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at a Chapman nursing home.

Mr. Manbeck was an agent for the Union Pacific Railroad for about 40 years before he retired in 1982. He served in the 752nd Railroad Battalion in the Army in the European Theatre during World War II.

He was born June 4, 1922, at Bavaria, the son of Charles Enoch and Ethel Mae Houser Manbeck. He was graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1940.

Mr. Manbeck was a life member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at Chapman and the Lawrence-Brunswick Post No. 240 of the American Legion where he served two years as post commander. He was a former member and past president of the Chapman Lions Club and a past master of the Masonic Lodge at Chapman and Enterprise. He also was a member of Chapman United Methodist Church.

He was married to Lois Brockett on Oct. 31, 1942, at Onaga. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Kathy Frohardt, Chapman, and Vicki Crawford, Beatrice, Neb.; two stepsisters, Virginia Levier, Manhattan, and Barbara Stuart, Blue Rapids; a brother, Keith Manbeck, Rossville; five grandchildren; and two great-granchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Chapman United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Indian Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapman Valley manor or to the charity of the donor’s choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
