Teresa G. (Besta) Marney
HOLTON- Teresa G. (Besta) Marney passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Medicalodge Jackson County, Holton, Kansas. She was born March 14, 1938, to Winifred L. (Yocum) and Edward B. Besta. She graduated from Delia High School in May of 1955. She married Robert H. "Bob" Marney on May 14, 1955, at the Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville, Kansas. He survives. They made their home in Delia until 2002 when they moved to Holton.

She is also survived by her children: Kim & Mark Davis, Topeka; Gary & Leslie Marney and Sandy & Scott Allen, Holton; and grandchildren Erin (Magette) & Joe Miller, Ethan & Sean Davis, Topeka; Lannie Allen & fiancé Morgan Thomes, Denison; Torri & Heather Marney, Taylor Allen and Andrew Grandon, Holton, and Joshua Marney & Matthew Grandon, Manhattan. Other survivors include her mother and stepfather, Winifred & Clinton Kerwin, Rossville, two brothers: Bennie Besta, Rossville, and Bob (Susan) Kerwin, Ozawkie, two sisters; Mary C (Ron) Cowan, Topeka and Terri Kerwin, Rossville, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Besta, Topeka, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward B. Besta, and one brother, George E. "Eddie" Besta.

She was active in the Delia 4-H Club as a project leader, and was a fair superintendent at the Jackson County Fair. She was a member and Past President of the Rossville Lions Club. She was a member and Past President of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 American Legion Auxiliary, Rossville. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder and church secretary. She later transferred her membership to the Holton Evangel United Methodist Church.

She retired in 1993 after 28 years of service with Hallmark Cards, Topeka. She retired as third shift supervisor of Department E.

She was an avid gardener and loved working with flowers. She could make a water lily grow in the desert. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling. The thing she most enjoyed was her grandchildren and the time she spent with them.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, January 29, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys. Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Rossville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Holton Evangel United Methodist Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home 714 Maple. St, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
