Obituary- Martinek, Benedict 3

BENEDICT MARTINEK

WITH deep regret I report the death of Benedict (Sonny) Martinek, age 11, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie J. Martinek, who was killed instantly, Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 1949, when a tractor he was driving overturned. Sonny was born in Rossville, Kans., May 29, 1938 and later he moved with his parents to Delia, Kans. In 1943, at the age of 5, he and his parents moved to the present farm home. Sonny attended Victor School, District No. 101; Mr. Strimple being his teacher all five years. Sonny was always cheerful and lived his life to the fullest extent. He enjoyed being with both young and old. He was always doing something for his grandmothers to help make life easier for them. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Sonny became a juvenile member of our lodge in October of 1941. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Delia, where he assisted in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as an altar boy. His faithful devotion to God and His teachings have won him a place in the Eternal City. Sonny had just returned home after spending 2 weeks at Camp St. Maur, Atchison, Kans. In his letter home, his greatest wish was to help his daddy with the plowing. It was while doing this work the sad tragedy occurred. Surviving beside his parents are two grandmothers: Mrs. Frank Diehl and Mrs. Agnes Martinek. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Parish at Delia, Thursday, August 4, 1949 at 9:00 A M. with Father McManus officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys, Kans. Honorary pallbearers were: Jimmy Simecka, Jackie Lane, Larry Lane, Billie Cantillon, Bobbie Simecka, Norman Simecka, Jody Muller and Eddie Besta. Active pallbearers were his uncles: Emil Martinek, Ray Martinek, Richard Macha, Pete Kovar, Earl Diehl and George Diehl. I extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and to our Sonny, may he have eternal peace. -- For Lodge Moravan No. 128, Rossville, Kans.
