Bennie Martinek was born July 4, 1913, near Rossville, the son of Vincent and Agnes Simecka Martinek. He spent most of his life in the Rossville and Delia communities and the past two years in Wimberley, Texas.

Bennie married Ruth A. Diehl on August 24, 1937 in Delia. She along with Doug and Patricia Martinek, Topeka, and Dwight and Beverly Martinek, Wimberley, TX., survive. Bennie was preceded in death by a son, Sonny V. Martinek, who died August 2, 1949.

Bennie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wimberley, Texas. He served on the parish council at Sacred Heart Church and on church committees. He was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 657 and was a member of the Fourth Degree in St. Mary’s. Bennie was a 50-year member of the Moravian Lodge No. 128 in Delia.

A 1931 graduate of Delia High School, Bennie was a teacher for several years and a farmer and a stockman for most of his life. He was an insurance agent for more than forty years.

Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Michelle Martinek Berry and her husband Mike, Topeka; Doug Martinek and his fiancee Amy Speed, Nashville, TN; Melissa Martinek Kuckelman and her husband John, Topeka; Dustin Martinek and his fiancee Robin Wilson, Wimberley, TX; Darren Martinek, Nashville, TN; and Mandi Martinek, Topeka; a brother, Henry Martinek, Rossville; and a sister, Helen Macha, Rossville.

We would like to express our most sincere thanks to Father Carl Dekat for his spiritual guidance and inspiration. Our faith is the vital element of our lives that turns times of sorrow and sadness into times of hope and joy.

We would also like to thank all of our families and friends for their kindness and thoughtfulness. We are very grateful for the memorial contributions, flowers, cards, and food, but most of all for the warm relationship we all share.
