Obituary- Mason, Richard T.

Richard T. Mason was born in York, Ontario, Canada, October 27, 1847 and died at his home one mile east of Rossville, November 16, 1916, being 69 years and 20 days old at his demise. His father died when he was 9 years old and his mother when he was 15 years old. Shortly after his mother's death he came to the United States making his first stop at Buffalo, New York. After visiting various states he came to Kansas in 1869 and shortly after located at Rossville. On January 2, 1877 he was married to Rosa¬line Myers in Louisiana, Mo. To this union five children were born Margaret A. and William E. who died in infancy and Mrs. Jesse M. Enos, Fred N. and Clay C. of Rossville. The latter three with their mother; one brother, John Mason, of New Orleans, La., and two sisters, Mrs. R.B. Young, of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Mathew Taylor, of Port Austin, Mich., survive him.
Up until about nine years ago Mr. Mason conducted a black-smith shop on the present site of the Peoples State Bank and held the one shop for a period of 29 years. After selling to Chas. Bixby, Mr. Mason took up his old work again having a shop for a short time on the alley of his old home premises on Pottawatomie street, but gave it up because of breaking health. Since giving up active work he had lived on the farm east of Rossville. Mr. Mason’s death was caused by kid¬ney end bladder trouble. The funeral last Saturday was held at the home conducted by Rev. A.J. Crawford, of the Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. F.H. Bently.
