KENNETH “KENNY”
S. KERWIN
Kenneth “Kenny” S. Kerwin, 84, of Delia, passed away on Sunday, June 28,2009, at the Rossville Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Jan. 19,1925, at Delia, the son of Robert E. and Mary A. Hanrahan Kerwin. He grew up in the Delia community and graduated from both the Delia Grade and High Schools.

Kenny married Donna J. Hards on Oct. 3, 1945, at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka. Kenny received his childhood Sacraments at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia where he served as a parish council member for years. Kenny was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Marys Council No. 657 and a 4th Degree member of the Thomas A. McNeive Assembly of the Knights of Columbus.

Kenny farmed for many years around the Delia area. He was also a rancher. He received the 1967 Bankers Award for conservation practices. In 2002, he received the outstanding conservationist award for continuing the maintenance of his conservation practices.

He served on the Farmers Union Co-op Board for many years. He was a past member of the Delia Lions Club. In 1957, Kenny was approached by a representative from the Brown County Soil Conservation Office to spear-head a watershed development effort in the surrounding counties. From that Kenny was the president of the Cross Creek Watershed Joint District No 42 until April 2004 (42 years).

Kenny retired from farming/ ranching in 1985. He then went to work for Kaw Valley USD No. 321. He retired in 1994 after several years of service. After retirement Kenny would frequent his favorite coffee establishments for socializing. Kenny never knew a stranger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and caring for his greyhound dogs.

Kenny was a loving husband, brother, uncle and great-uncle.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Donna of the home; two brothers, Clinton (Winnie) Kerwin, of Rossville and Leo (Virginia) Kerwin, Wellsville; many nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by an infant son Larry Stephen, his parents Robert E. and Mary A. Kerwin, an infant brother Aloysius and a brother Robert A. Kerwin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.

Mr. Kerwin will lie in state after 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, at Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys where there will be a rosary recited at 7 p.m.
