Mrs. McCollough, Pioneer Resident, passes away
Mrs. Elizabeth McCollough passed away Monday evening, April 16, at 10:30 p.m. at her home four miles north of Rossville, after being ill ten days with pneumonia.
Mrs. McCollough was one of the early day settlers of Rossville township and Shawnee county, coming to Kansas in March 1870 with her husband, immediately after her marriage. They settle first at Tecumseh, Ks., remaining there two years, spent one year near Kingsville, and moved to the home place north of Rossville in the fall of 1873. This fall would have been her 44th year on the home place.
Elizabeth Pettit was born at Ft. Wayne, Ind., January 20, 1842, being 75 years, 2 months and 26 days old when death came. For ten years prior to her marriage to Isaac McCollough at Ft. Wayne, on January 18, 1870, she taught school in Indiana.
Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCollough, Charles of Richland, Ks., Fred, of Rossville, Mrs. Flora Mills, of Burns, Ks. Mrs. Olive McCartney, of Geneva, Ks. and H.E. of Rossville, all of whom survive her beside one brother, David Pettit and two sisters, Mrs. Emaline Monn and Mrs. Anna White, all of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Early in life Mrs. McCollough united with the United Brethren church and continued in that faith until the end.
The funeral was held yesterday at the home, services being conducted by the Rev. A.J. Crawford of the Rossville Presbyterian church, and interment was made in the Rossville cemetery.
