Obituary- McConnell, James 1
James “Papa Jim" A. McConnell, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, in a St. Joseph health care center.
He was born November 29,1917, in Rossville, Kan., the son of Emma and John McConnell. He graduated from Rossville High School. He served in the Army and is a veteran of the World War II, serving in the 268 AAF base unit as the Assistant Crew Chief. He worked at Swift & Henry Commission as a buyer at the St. Joseph Stockyards for over 60 years. He enjoyed raising quarter horses and was of the Christian faith. James was preceded in death by wife, Ina McConnell; father, John McConnell; mother, Emma (Cottle) McConnell Waller; step father, George Waller; son, James L. McConnell; brother, Johnny McConnell; and sister, Ruby Lawrence.
Survivors include companion, Sharon Black of St. Joseph.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
