John R. McConnell
John Reid McConnell, 80, Topeka, died Monday, June 10,1996, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. McConnell worked for Duffens Optical Co. until he retired in 1969. He earlier had farmed at Faucett, Mo., and DeKalb, Mo. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was born September 24, 1915, at Rossville, the son of John R. and Emma Cottle McConnell. He had lived in Topeka since 1954.

Mr. McConnell was a member of Oakland Christian Church and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

He was married to Dorothy E. Waterman May 24, 1941, at St. Joseph, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, John D. “Dan” McConnell, Tecumseh; a daughter, Nancy B. Brunin, Topeka; a sister, Ruby Lawrence, Perry; a brother, James McConnell, St. Joseph, Mo.; six grandchildren; and one great- grandson.

Mr. McConnell was cremated. A memorial service was held at 10:30 Friday at Oakland Christian Church. A private burial of cremains was in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
