Irene Ketter

DELIA - Iren Ketter, 6, Delia, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at a Topeka nursing home.

Mrs. Ketter worked at the Supply Depot and Adams Printing, both in Topeka, and in the lunchroom at the Rossville school and later as a clerk for the State of Kansas Motor Vehicle Department.

She was born July 11, 1910, in Wetmore, the daughter of Thomas Duggin and Birdie L. Donaldson Troughton. She was graduated from Wetmore High School and had lived in Rossville before she moved to Delia.

Mrs. Ketter was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia and the altar society at the church.

She married Lawrence B. Ketter on July 12, 1927, in Purcell. He died March 21, 1967. A daughter, Mary Lou DeBacker, died July 26, 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Florence Martin, Topeka; two sons, Lawrence B. Ketter Jr. and Melvin Ketter, both of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Mrs. Ketter will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Restoration Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
