Obituary- McIntyre, William

Dr. William T. McIntyre

Dr. William Thomas McIntyre, 91, 4712 W. 6th, died late Friday at a Topeka retirement home.

He was born Dec. 14,1890, on a farm five miles south of Corning, Iowa, the son of J. Ross and Olive O. Fife McIntyre. He moved with his family to Lenox, Iowa, in 1892 and was graduated from Lenox High School in 1910.

He later was graduated from Tarkio College, Tarkio, Mo., with a bachelor of arts degree in 1914. He attended Xenia Theological Seminary, Xenia, Ohio, from 1916 to 1919 and was graduated with master of divinity and master of theology degrees. He lived in Topeka since 1961.

He took a short course at the American Institute of Archeology, Jerusalem, Palestine, in 1926 and later received his doctor of divinity degree from Tarkio College in 1940.

Dr. McIntyre was traveling secretary for Intercollegiate Prohibition Association from 1914 to 1916. He was ordained by the Chicago Presbytery of the United Presbyterian Church in 1919 and installed as pastor of Indiana Harbor Presbyterian Church, East Chicago, Ind., where he served from 1919 to 1929. He was pastor of Gibson Heights United Presbyterian Church, St. Louis, Mo., from 1929 to 1948.

He was superintendent of the United Presbyterian Home, Washington, Iowa, from 1948 to 1961 when he retired and moved to Topeka. He attended summer Chautauqua in 1916, 1917 and 1918 and Associated Clubs from 1948 to 1958. He was elected to the board of directors of Young People’s Work of the church in 1943. Dr. McIntyre was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Topeka.

He married Myrnah R. Franklin June 17, 1920, at Rossville She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jocille Clair Schnake, Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Myrnah Jean Hohman, Palatine, Ill; a son, William Franklin McIntyre, Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Central United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Presbyterian Manor, 4712 W. 6th, Topeka, 66606, or United Presbyterian Home, Washington, Iowa, 52353. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
