Obituary- Meyer, Verna

Mrs. Verna L. Meyer
VALLEY FALLS - Mrs. Verna L. Meyer, 89, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, at a Winchester hospital where she was admitted Monday. She was in failing health the past five years.

She was born Dec. 4, 1894, at Ozawkie, the daughter of Jake and Kate Eshom Ammen.

Mrs. Meyer was a member of the United Methodist Church and a former member of the auxiliary to Grahem-Herbers Post No. 3084 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Valley Falls.

She was married to Louis A. Meyer Feb. 25, 1913, at Ozawkie. They farmed in the Ozawkie, Oskaloosa and McLouth communities until they moved to Valley Falls in 1948. He died Aug. 12, 1950. A son, Eugene Meyer, died June 3, 1972.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Vera Adams, Delia, Mrs. Maxine Boyd, Route 3, Leavenworth, and Mrs. Betty Clark, Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Everett Meyer, Kansas City, Mo., and Warren Meyer, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Anna Cunning, Meriden; 10 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nellis-Hagge Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery. Mrs. Meyer will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Falls Rescue Unit and sent in care of the funeral home.
