Obituary- Miller, DeVere

DeVere C. Miller
DeVere C. Miller, 67, Willard, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 30, 1933, in Delia, the son of Claude and Pauline Rezac Miller.

He grew up in the Delia community and was graduated from Delia High School. He had served in the National Guard and then the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, serving 18 months in Germany.

He owned and operated the Miller’s Auto Service at Willard since 1979. He had worked most of his life as a mechanic in the Rossville and Willard area, working for Rossville Implement, Rossville Truck and Tractor, Berry Grain and Fertilizer Plant, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant, and also operated the Rossville Mobil station.

He was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville. He was a 41 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Hesperian Lodge in Rossville that was combined in 1991 with Lake Lodge No. 50, Silver Lake. In 1993, he transferred to Delia Lodge No. 419 AF&AM. He had served as Master in 1966. Mr. Miller was mayor of Willard and had been active in Willard city government. He was an active member of the volunteer fire fighters of Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 at Dover.

On December 29, 1953, he married Grace Dick in Topeka. They were divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Miller McCormic, Shawnee, and Brenda L. Miller, Willard; one son, Rick D. Miller, Rossville; a sister, Eileen Reedy, Topeka; two brothers, Donald W. Miller and Lloyd L. Miller, both of Delia; and three granddaughters.

His service was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rossville Christian Church. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery. A military graveside service was conducted by Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, Rossville, and Masonic graveside service was conducted by Delia Lodge No. 419 AF&AM. A family visitation was held from 6:30 to 7:30 at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stormont-Vail Hospice, Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, or Shawnee County Fire District No. 4, Dover, and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys 66536.

WILLARD — DeVere Miller, 67, Willard, died Tuesday, March 6,2001, at his home.

Mr. Miller worked most of his life as a mechanic in the Rossville and Willard area. He had owned and operated Millers Auto Service in Willard since 1979. He also worked for Rossville Implement, Rossville Truck and Tractor, Berry Grain and Fertilizer Plant, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Rossville Mobil Station.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rossville Christian Church. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery with military honors by Jimmy Lillard American Legion Post. Masonic graveside services will be by Delia Lodge No. 419, AF&AM. Mr. Miller will lie in state from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Stormont Vail Hospice, Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, Rossville, or Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 Dover, and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, 66536.
