Obituary- Minnis, Winifred 1

Winifred Vera McClain Minnis
ROSSVILLE- Mrs. Winifred Vera McClain Minnis, 93, died at her home on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. She was born January 16,1919 at St. Marys, the daughter of Clarence S. and Florentine Stockman Emert. The Emert family lived in the St. Marys area until 1932 when they moved to Rossville.

Winifred received her BS and teaching certification from St.
Marys College in Leavenworth and her business degree from Washburn University. She taught one year at Lillis High School and six years as a commerce teacher for the High School at St.
Marys.

She was married to Thornton McClain August 21, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. She and her husband farmed until retiring in 1980. Thornton died August 21,1987.

She was active in her church and was a member of the Altar Society for many years. She joined the Rossville Literary and Music Club in 1947. Winifred belonged to the Ladies of the Moose in Topeka. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and restoring rental property.

On April 1, 1989 Winifred married Russell Minnis. They were married eight years until Russell's death on May 9,1997.

Winifred is survived by her children; a daughter. Vickie Sue McClain, Overland Park; a son, Larry M. McClain, Rossville; her sister Mrs. Joan Siegert Warton, Garland, TX.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Library and sent in care of the funeral home.
