Obituary- Mitchell, Ervin

Ervin "Bun" Mitchell
Ervin Bun Mitchell, 90, died early Sunday, January 1, 2006 at his home near Rossville. He was born, January 5, 1915 on Soldier Creek east of Delia, the son of William Harvey and Anna Brown Mitchell. He attended Stach School east of Delia. Mr. Mitchell moved to Oxnard, California in 1936 and worked on a ranch. He moved back to Kansas to the Solider Creek area near Delia in the fall of 1939. He was a farmer most of his life. In 1972 he went to work for the Jackson County Road Department as a road grader operator. He also had been a maintainer operator for St. Marys Township and Harrison Township until his retirement. For 15 years he always took at least two months in the summer to go on wheat harvest, traveling from Texas to Montana with his son and his family, doing so until the harvest of 1993. He married Freda Corinne Cole in 1937 at Ventura, California. She died September 28, 1998. Bun is survived by one son, Jim and his wife Judy Mitchell, Soldier, and grandsons, Bryan Mitchell, Ulysses, KS. Ernie and Milo Mitchell, Holton; by daughter, Shirley and her husband Daryl Mitchell and their children, Ronda Rabe, Delia, Candy Brecheisen, Jody Mitchell, Monte Mitchell and Randi Mitchell Rossville; daughter, Susan Grennell, St. Louis, and her children, Angie Carlson, St. Marys, Misty Adkins, Topeka and Wes Farley, Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, Keenan, Kylia, Cole, Taylor, Rylea. Gracie, Emma, Jericka, Wyatt, Jordan, Bailey and Dane. Family graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 AM. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. He will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville where there will be a visitation from 6:30-8:00. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice and sent in care of the funeral chapel. Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville is in charge of arrangements.
