Obituary- Mitchell, Jack 2
Jack W. Mitchell
DELIA—Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Rossville for Jack W. Mitchell, 74, Delia, who died Saturday, July 20,2002, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born Aug. 20,1927, in Delia, to Earl C. and Clara E. Mahon Mitchell, and spent most of his life in the Delia community. He attended Stach School and graduated from Silver Lake High School. He was a farmer and stockman for many years.
He was a disabled Army veteran of the Korean War. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart medal. He was discharged in 1952.
He was a member of Delia Lodge No. 419, AF&AM, in Delia, Scottish Rite bodies in Topeka and Silver Lake Post No. 160 of the American Legion in Silver Lake. He was a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Korean War branch, and the Second infantry Division of Korean War Veterans Alliance.
He married Nadine E. Kratina-Bahner in 1965. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Denise Diederich, Rapid City, S.D.; two stepsons, Darrel Bahner, Silver Lake, and DeLaine Bahner, Rossville; a stepdaughter, Darlene Dean, Silver Lake; a sister, Maureen Wilson, O'Fallon, III.; seven stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat- grandchildren.
Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery north of Silver Lake. Mr. Mitchell will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Veterans Administration Hospital Volunteer Services and sent in care of the funeral home.
