Velma C. Lambotte
Velma C. Lambotte, 89, Manhattan, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at the Meadowlark Hills Health Care Center, Manhattan.

She was born September 18, 1908, in Omega, OK, the daughter of Henry Louis and Loretta May (Lambott) Lambotte, and had been a Manhattan resident since 1949.
She was graduated from Rossville High School in 1927 as class valedictorian. She attended Emporia Teachers College for two summers and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washburn University. In 1963, she earned her Master’s Degree from Kansas State University.

Miss Lambotte was a school teacher. She taught at James School for two years, Kingsville for two years, Ayres for six years, and Rossville for 12 years. In Manhattan, she taught 12 years at Eugene Field, and 12 years at Bluemont Elementary Schools as a second and fourth grade teacher. She retired in 1973.

She was a Life Member of the Kansas State Teachers Association and a member of the Parent Teachers Association at both Eugene Field and Bluemont Schools. Other memberships include the Phi Delta Gamma (honorary fraternity, nine articles published), A.A.U.W., National Educators Association, and in 1990 was named to the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed writing, and was active in many creative writing groups.

In 1925, Miss Lambotte and her family listened to the Gospel of Jesus Christ She made her choice to serve God, and was true to that choice until death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by one sister, Mabel Luvina May, in October 1994.

Survivors include a brother, John H. Lambotte, Sandy, UT; two nephews, George May and Dale May; three nieces, Glennice Schraw, Mary Headrick, and Wanda Headrick; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.

Her service was Thursday at the Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, Manhattan, with Charles Middleswarth officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Velma Lambotte Memorial Fund, to be used for a scholarship. Contributions may be left in care of the Edwards-Yorgensen- Meloan Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
