Obituary- Bond, John

Death Claims Another Pioneer
John Bond, aged 87 years, 11 months and 5 days died Wednesday at noon while sitting at the dinner table at his home west of Rossville. Mrs. Annis Bond, who has been taking care of Mr. Bond found him in an unconscious state a few minutes after stepping from the house. The children were called immediately, but arrived after he had passed away.

The funeral was held today at the home conducted by Rev. Basquin of the Methodist church.

John Alexander Bond was a native of Tyler County, W. Va., where he was born May 20, 1834. On September 6, 1860 he was married to Miss Agnes Thomas, at Centerville, W. Va. To this union two children were born. In the fall of 1868 he came to Kansas with his family first locating northeast of Topeka and a year later moved two miles north West of Topeka. In the next five years he moved two times to different locations near Topeka and then purchased a farm 1 1/2 miles east of Rossville now occupied by the Walter Jones family. He remained there four years, and moved west of Rossville in 1876 to the farm he continued to occupy until his death. Mrs. Bond died April 1, 1915.

He is survived by his children, his son Morris Bond and daughter. Mrs. T. H. Emert of Rossville; two sisters and one brother Mrs. Mary Kistler of Elmont, Mrs. Whitcotton of Oak Creek, Colo., and Benjamin Bond of Portland, Ore.
