Mrs. Hazel I. Murren
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tibbitts-Griffin Funeral Chapel at 29th and Tecumseh Road for Mrs. Hazel Iva Murren, 88, formerly of 1608 W. 37th Terr. She died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1989, at a Topeka convalescent center.
She was born Jan. 2, 1901, in Emmett, the daughter of John F. and Sarah J. Wiley Wilson. She grew up in the Emmett community and after her marriage lived in Frankfort and Rossville before she moved to Delia in 1923. She lived on a farm near Richland from 1943 until 1968 when she moved to Topeka.
Mrs. Murren was a former member of the Richland Evangelical United Brethren Church, Richland Flower Club, Disney Home Demonstration Unit and Riverside 4-H Club.
She was married to Asa A. Murren June 9, 1921, in Topeka. He died July 22, 1970. A son, Clyde Murren, died July 23, 1983, and a grandson, David Murren, died Sept. 8, 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Doloris Gardner, Midwest City, Okla., and Mrs. Dorene Hadl, Lawrence; two sons, Asa D. Murren, Topeka and Leroy Murren, Overbrook; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Murren will lie in state until service time Saturday at the chapel where relatives and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research, Division of Biology, Ackert Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, 66506.
