WILLIAM H. BOND
William H. Bond, 85, was born near Rossville, Ks. December 3, 1893 and passed away at his home in Alma Wednesday, June 13, 1979.
He lived in the Rossville and St. Marys communities until 1964 when he moved to Alma.
Mr. Bond was an Army veteran of World War I in a machine gun squad with the 35th Division in France.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys, until moving to Alma when he became a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He also was a member of Hoy-Heim Post No. 178 of the American Legion, St. Marys, and of Ed Palenske Post No. 32 of the American Legion, Alma.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amelia. They were married for forty years. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jo Stattleman and Miss Margaret Ann Bond.
He was married to Gertrude Wahl; she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Amelia Flanagan, Emmett; a son, W.H. Bond, Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 37 step- grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
The rosary was at 8 p.m. Friday at Hasenback and LaMar Funeral Home in Alma, and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church at Alma with Father Gerald O’Shea officiating. The Ed Palenske Post No. 32 conducted the military graveside services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys.
Casket bearers were Joe Flanagan, David A. Bond, William J. Bond, Michael Flanagan, Alan Freeby and Robert Freeby.
