Opal M. Lewis-Johnson
ROSSVILLE — Opal M. Lewis-Johnson, 85, Rossville, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.

She was born Aug. 28, 1911, at Hobart, Okla., the daughter of James Roy Moore and Maudie Annie Warnike. She lived in the Arlington area in Jacksonville, Fla., for more than 40 years.

She served in the U.S. Army WACS during World War II. She was a corporal and received the WAC Service Medal and good conduct medal. She received Honorary Title of Lieutenant Col., Aide de Camp, Governor’s Staff, from Jim Carter in 1979.

She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in West Bay Annex at Jacksonville.

She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 88 where she served as historian and chaplain. She was also a member of the Honor Society of Women Legionnaries, the Twenty-Four. She was a member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Arlington, Fla., and the K-9 Obedience Club, Jacksonville.

Survivors include three sisters, Louzetta Mahan, Rossville, Cherry Morgan, Maple Hill, and Marcia Collins, Overbrook.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. She will lie in state after noon today at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans and sent in care of the funeral home.
