JOHN ANDREW LILLARD
John Lillard died very suddenly Monday night, January 7, about 10 o’clock at his home, corner Adrian and Green streets. Death came without warning after he had retired for the night in apparent good health. Mrs. Lillard discovered he was dead when he failed to answer her inquiry if anything was the matter following an unusual sound and a spasmodic movement of his body, which startled her.

The news, when made known up town, dumfounded his friends. Only that afternoon he had been about town and remarked he had never felt better and apparently was in perfect health. Mr. Lillard, was a strong man physically and had never been seriously ill. He had gone thru an attack of the flu only, in December.

Funeral services were held' at the Methodist church Wednesday at 2' o’clock conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Gordon Pritchett and the body interred in Rossville cemetery. The music was furnished by a Quartette including Mrs. Wm. Butters, Mrs. E. G. Griswold, Messrs. A. L. Ruif and Rev. Pritchett. Miss Gertrude Hartzell was the accompanist. The songs sung included: “Have Thy Own Wav Lord,” “God Will Take Care of You,” and “My Savior First of All.”

The pall bearers were: Messrs. R. A. Shipley, E. I. Kirkpatrick, Joe Webb, Frank Harris, Ben Wade and Harvey James.

Mr. Lillard was born at St. Clere, north of Emmett, May 17, 1873, the son of James and Mary Lillard. With the exception of a ten years residence at Stafford, Kansas, he had spent practically all his life in Rossville. At the date of his death he was 55 years, 7 months and 24 days old. He followed his trade as carpenter and in company of J. A. Parr was in constant demand by the people of this and surrounding com¬munities. John was of a genial disposition and beloved to a host of acquaintances and friends. He had represented his section of the city as their councilman and was recognized as a man of good judgment, fair and impartial in his dealings.

Besides his aged mother, who made her home with his family, he is survived by his widow and one. son, John Jr., four brothers, James, of Valencia; Bradley, of Topeka; Rufus and Chris, of Rossville.
