LEO N. “BUCK” LORD
Leo N. “Buck” Lord, 91, Rossville, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Stormont Vail Regional Hospital, Topeka.

He was born March 20,1919, in Gage County, Nebraska near Liberty, the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Alice Lewis Lord.

He grew up in the Frankfort community where he attended school. Mr. Lord served in the United States Army 183rd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He joined the service two months before Pearl Harbor. Battles he fought in include Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Lord had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He later worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka retiring, April 25,1982. He was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville.

He was united in marriage to Helen A. Kokenge at the Washington County Courthouse in Washington, Kan., Jan. 19, 1952. She preceded him in death Jan. 26,2011. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Arnold and Kenneth Lord; a sister, Creta McMillian; a son-in-law, Rex Stapel; brothers-in law Wayne McMillian, Delbert Hale and Thomas Simpson; sister-in-law Verla Lord.

Survivors include his son, Mike (Laura) Lord, Willard, daughters, Susan Stapel, Meriden, Cindy (Jim) Sweany, St. Marys, Debbie Lord, Rossville and step-daughter Donna (Bill) Miller, Beatrice, Neb.; two sisters, Helen Simpson, Topeka and Donna Hale, Montrose, Colo.; a sister-in-law, LaVon Lord, Topeka; four grandchildren, Matt, Christine (Toby), Michelle and Rachel; three great-grandchildren, Freddie, Faith and Floyd,

Private graveside services with military honors conducted by Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion will be at the Rossville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, KS. 66533.
