George Olejnik
Delia- George Olejnik, 86, Delia, died Thursday, December 7, 1995 at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. Olejnik owned and operated Olejnik Welding and Blacksmith Shop at Delia for 38 years before he retired in 1974. He hand made tools and knives and also did woodworking. He had served on the Delia City Council and school board and was a former Delia mayor.
He was born Sept. 7, 1909, at Rossville, the son of George Sr. and Rosie Hejtmanek Olejnik. He had lived in the Delia community several years.
Mr. Olejnik was a member of Delia Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Delia Lions Club. He had been a former project leader for the 4-H Club and a member of the Western Fraternal Lodge Association for more than 50 years.
He was married to Letha Kovar on Nov. 26, 1939, north of Topeka. She died March 8, 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Tomson, Rossville, and Joyce Ward, Delia; three brothers, William Olejnik, Rossville, Edward Olejnik, Holton, and Henry Olejnik, Delia; four sisters, Helen Donly, St. Joseph, Mo., Josephine Pressgrove, Topeka, Georgianne Davis and Agnes Wike, both of Topeka; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Czech Moravan Cemetery southeast of Delia. Mr. Olejnik will lie in state from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys where relatives and friends will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delia Presbyterian Church or the ZCBJ Lodge and sent in care of the funeral home.
