James M. Adams
James M. Adams, 73, formerly of Rossville, died early Monday, July 31, 1989, at a Topeka nursing home.
He had been ill more than a year.
Mr. Adams co¬owned and man¬aged an imple¬ment business at Rossville more than 30 years.
He was born Oct. 28, 1915, at Lyndon, the son of Jess T. and Laurel Michael Adams. He attended Lyndon schools and Pittsburg State Teachers College. He lived in Lyndon and in the Grove community and later lived in Ross¬ville 35 years, Mr. Adams was chairman of the Community Development program for Rossville and the Rossville Recreation Association. He was manag¬er of the Babe Ruth baseball team and was instrumental in obtaining lights for the baseball field. He served on the board of Jayhawk Ar¬ea Council of Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout.
Mr. Adams was a past president of the Lions Club. He was a member of Lake Lodge No. 50, AF&AM, at Silver lake and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rossville.
He married Lucille Adell Hasty Sept. 8, 1938, in Osage City. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jesse William Adams, Ellsworth, and Harry Richard Adams, Silver Lake; a daughter, Carol Sue Adams Dick, Blaine; a twin brother, Frank E. Adams, Topeka; and seven grand¬children.
Services at 9 a.m. Thursday will be followed by Masonic services at Parker-Price Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thurs¬day in Osage City Cemetery at Osage City. Mr. Adams will lie in state after 5 p.m. today at the mor¬tuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Rossville, 66533.
