Raymond Kolbek
(April 6, 1936 - February 2, 2015)
Raymond L. Kolbek, 78, of Burlington, passed away
Monday, February 2, 2015, at Life Care Center.

Ray was born April 6, 1936, at Hoyt, Kansas, the son of John F. and Mattie M.
(Viles) Kolbek. He grew up at Meriden and attended school there. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Korea and Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he served eight years in the Army Reserve.

He moved to Chicago and Kansas City, before settling in Topeka, where he worked for thirteen years as a warehouse operations supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. On March 18, 1974, he was married to Elizabeth J. “Betty” Brown at Kansas City, Kansas, and the following year, in 1975, they moved to Dallas, Texas. Ray worked in the Dallas area as a warehouse operations manager for Toshiba until it closed, and then at Canon USA until his retirement in 2001.

In 2006, Ray and Betty moved to Burlington to be nearer to family. Ray was an active member and officer of American Legion Post No. 38 in Burlington, and had been a member and past post commander of VFW in Topeka. His hobbies included woodworking and carving.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Kolbek, a sister, Karen White, and a second sister who died as a child.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; a brother, Harold Kolbek of Holton; three sons, Richard Kolbek of Topeka, David Kolbek of Pratt, and Kristopher Kolbek of Topeka; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial with military' honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Olpe.

Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening, February' 4, at Jones Funeral Home.
