Dale H. Page
Dale H. Page, 76, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1991, at his home.

W.W. Scamman, district coroner, said an autopsy showed Mr. Page died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of the head.

Mr. Page was a retired colonel with the Kansas Army National Guard and had served in many Kansas Guard units. He entered the Kansas National Guard Jan. 27, 1937, and served with Headquarters Troop of the 114th Cavalry. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1940.

He served in the Army in Europe from 1940 to 1945 and took part in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day.

He attained the rank of colonel Sept. 24, 1959. He served on active duty as the U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for Kansas from 1964 until he was discharged July 31, 1974.

He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Award. He also received the Croix de Guerre from France.

He was born July 1, 1914, north of Rossville, the son of Lawrence Franklin and Stella Mae Stuver Page, and was graduated from Rossville High School.

Mr. Page was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rossville and a former member of Hesperian Lodge No. 111, AF&AM, in Rossville. He was a founding member of Capitol City Gun Club and a member of the National Rifle Association, National Guard Association and Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.

He was married to Helen Gould Goff Dec. 16, 1941, at Little Rock, Ark. She died Dec. 15, 1983.

Survivors include a brother, Ralph Page, Rossville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. The Ceremonial Platoon of the Kansas Army National Guard will conduct graveside services at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Page will lie in state at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today when the casket will be closed.

Topeka man’s death called suicide
A 76-year-old emphysema patient committed suicide Tuesday morning at his southwest Topeka home, authorities said.

An autopsy showed Dale H. Page, 3051 S.W. Arrowhead, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of the head, said Shawnee County District Coroner W. Wike Scamman.

Police said Page died between 6:40 and 8:05 a.m. when he was found by relatives in his bedroom.

Detective Sgt. Steve Harsha said Page had been suffering from complications from emphysema.
