Obituary- Parr, Rolland 1

Rolland D. “Red” Parr
ROSSVILLE-Rolland D. “Red” Parr, 82 passed away Sunday, August 26,2007 at a Rossville care center. He was born July 20, 1925 in Topeka the son of Joe and Esther Parr.

Mr. Parr was a lifelong resident of the Rossville community. He graduated from Rossville High School and from Kansas State University with a BS in Ag Economics. He was a member of Delta Tau fraternity at KSU. He served in the United State Army 101st/503rd Military Police BN. During WWII.

He was a farmer and stockman. Mr. Parr was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and had served on the Finance committee and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. He served on the Rossville High School Board of Education, the Shawnee County School Unification Planning Board and had been a member of Kaw Valley USD NO. 321 School Board where he served as president. Mr. Parr was a member and past president of the Kansas Livestock Association and the Kansas Livestock Association Tax Committee serving as chairman. He served as chairman of the Kansas State University Ag Advisory Committee and was on the Board of the Kansas Irrigators Association, and the Governor’s Task force on Water Resources along with serving on Representative Jim Slattery’s Ag Advisory Committee. Mr. Parr was on the National Cattlemen’s Association Tax Committee and the National Cattlemen’s Association Board of Directors. He was an Outside Director of the Kansas City Board of Trade. He was a lifetime member of the Kansas State Historical Society and belonged to SAR and the Topeka Genealogical Society. Red was a Gamma Sigma Delta Distinguished Alumnus recipient, and was a member of the KSU Presidents Club. He was a member of Lake Lodge No. 50 at Silver Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Virginia.
He was united in marriage to Irene on November 11, 1950 at Herndon, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Catherine and a son, Howard and his wife Rhonda; two grandchildren, Shannon and Kyle; a niece, JoAnna and a nephew James.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Parr will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 28th at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church or to the Donor’s Choice and sent in care of the funeral home.
