Obituary- Patterson, Abraham

ABRAHAM PATTERSON
Funeral services for Abraham Patterson were held in the Rossville Presbyterian church Friday, October 15, at 2:30 o’clock conducted by the Rev. II. L. Nelson, of Topeka. The body was interred in the family lot in Rossville cemetery.

Mr. Patterson died Friday morning October 14., at the home of his son Edward west of Mayetta. Mr. Patterson had been an invalid almost four years past, under the care of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Patterson.

He was born in Mercer county, Ohio in 1847 and at the date of his death was 79 years, 1 month and 25 days old. At the age of 7 he moved from Ohio to Schuyler county, Mo. In 1868 he was married to Mary Riley of Dawes county, Iowa. To this union five children were born, two of them passing away in infancy and a daughter Minnie passing away after the family’s arrival in this community. Mrs. Patterson passed away in June 1911.

Mr. Patterson and his family resided in Missouri until 1879 then moved to Kansas, locating at Rossville where he had lived continuously until his last illness.

After his arrival in Rossville he rented a small parcel of land of the late James Baldin, but took a job as manager of the Mulvane lumber yard and the old flour mill in Rossville, subleasing his farm ground.

Later in 1882 he took charge of the Mulvane ranch west of Rossville as manager in which capacity he remained until 1892, when he moved on the present Patterson farm west of Rossville.

Mr. Patterson was a fine cattle man and had a wonderful knack for getting work accomplished by his workmen.

He continued to work his home farm after the death of Mrs. Patterson until about a year before he became an invalid.

He is survived by his son Edward. Mayetta; one daughter, Mrs. J. C. Stoyell, Caliente, Nevada; five grandchildren, and one great grand child.

The pallbearers were I. B. Alter, C. E. Cless, C. E. GreSser, A. B. Jamieson, Frank Stumbaugh and Harvey James
