Obituary- Patterson, Donald
Donald K. Patterson
St. Marys-Donald K. Patterson was born Oct. 18, 1946 at Lawrence. He grew up in Delia and graduated from Delia High School.
He enlisted in the Army June 21, 1965, where he received the Purple Heart & Gold Star for serving in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged Oct. 7, 1968. Soon after he resumed college & graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. He then moved to Nevada where he became a LT for the prison system & became a parole officer.
Don moved back to Kansas in 1999 where he resided with his surviving wife of 24 years Lorie Patterson. He is survived by daughters, Margaret Patterson, San Diego, CA, Jamie Patterson, Red Bluff, CA, Katie Patterson-Morse, St. Marys and favorite step-daughter Misty Rezac, St. Marys; son, Levi Patterson, Topeka, brother, Harry Patterson, Denton, TX and his 11 grandchildren whom he loved & cherished very deeply. He was preceded by his father Edward Kirby Patterson, mother Margaret Ellen McAdams-Watters and two brothers, Jackie L. Patterson and Edward Gene Patterson.
One of his greatest joys in life was being a part of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club where he was the Regional Sergeant of Arms. One of his treasured memories was being able to go to the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Mar. 26, 2009 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment with military honors will be at the Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. Donald will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, Mar. 25, 2009 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald K. Patterson Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
He was a True Hero in so many different ways, and will be forever truly missed.
