Obituary- Pearl, Cleo 2

Cleo Winsor Pearl
Cleo Winsor Pearl, 82, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Clare Bridge Senior Living Facility in Fort Collins, Colo.

She was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Eskridge, the daughter of James R. and Cora Bretton Winsor. After her mom’s passing, Cleo and her two siblings came to live in St. Marys with her older sister and brother-in-law, LaMoyne and Bill Sullivan.

It was in St. Marys that Cleo met and married her husband John (Jack) Kenneth Pearl in June of 1951. Jack’s career took them to many parts of the world including Texas, Oklahoma, Massachusetts and Japan. After retiring in 1985, Cleo and her husband, Jack returned to the family farm in Rossville. They spent many hours renovating the farm and reconnecting with their Kansas roots. After Jack’s passing in 1991, Cleo moved to Loveland, Colo., to be closer to family.

In her later years, Cleo loved maintaining the tree-lined lane at the Rossville farm, quilting and collecting Madonnas. Cleo had inherited from her mother-in-law, Edna Pearl, a Madonna collection. After numerous additions to the collection, Cleo, with the help of her sister-in-law, Rita Muckenthaler, donated them to the St. Marys Historical Society, St. Marys.

Survivors include two sons, John Pearl and his wife, Elizabeth, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Louis Pearl and his wife, Connie, of Palestine, Texas; one daughter, Mary Ladd and her husband, Steve, of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Cora Lee Brody and her husband, Joe of Naugatuck, Conn.; a foster sister and dear friend, Barbara Stewart of Bonner Springs; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys.

Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, St, Marys.

Mrs. Pearl will lie in state after 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys, where there will be a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Historical Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, KS 66536.

Online condolences may be sent to www.piperfuneralhome.com.
