Obituary- Pokorney, Ella 2
Ella Pokorney
ROSSVILLE – Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church here for Ella Pokorney, 93, formerly of Rossville, who died Saturday, June 18, 1994, at a Wamego hospital. She had been in the Valley Vista nursing home in Wamego since July 5, 1990.
She was born Jan. 22, 1901, in Axtell, the daughter of James and Edna Jackson, and moved to Little River in Rice County with her parents in 1903. She spent her early life in Little River and lived in Miltonvale before she moved to Rossville in 1973.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Rossville, Loyal Chapter No. 176 of Order of Eastern Star in Silver Lake, and Royal Neighbors of America. She was instrumental in establishing the Good Neighbors organization in Rossville in 1977.
She was married to Harry K. Pokorney June 1, 1922, in Little River. He died in March 1969.
Survivors include a son, James Pokorney, Silver Lake; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Loyal Chapter No. 176 of Order of Eastern Star will conduct a service at the church in Rossville. Private burial will be in Miltonvale Cemetery in Cloud County. Mrs. Pokorney will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
