Obituary- Putthoff, Lewis
Lewis Herman Putthoff
Lewis Herman Putthoff, 86, Meriden, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1924, at Winchester, the son of Henry and Anna Boehm Putthoff. He attended school at Winchester. He was a Sergeant in the US Army in France in the army of occupation following WWII.
Lewis was a lifelong farmer-stockman. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka after 31 years of service. He lived in Valley Falls before moving to the Meriden area in 1957.
He married Caroline Albright on May 24, 1952, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. Caroline died on Sept. 5, 2008. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Marie Putthoff, on Feb. 15, 1960, a brother, Bernard Putthoff, two sisters, Mary Ann Koons and Kathleen Koons, and a son-in-law, Virgil Ricks.
Lewis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include two sons, Chris (Gwen) Putthoff, and Steve (Linda) Putthoff, all of Meriden; three daughters, Jolene (Ryan) Gier, Valley Falls, Patty Ricks and her fiance, Steve Mayberry, Rossville, and Jeanne (Tom) Figgs, Topeka; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31,2011, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Meriden. Burial will be at the church cemetery with military honors conducted by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 Veterans of Foreign Wars. A Rosary followed by a visitation will at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
