Obituary- Raine, Dorothy
Dorothy M. Say Raine
MAPLE HILL- Dorothy M. Say Raine, 88, died Wednesday, September 16,2009 at Manor Care in Topeka.
She was born January 3,1921 at Bala, the daughter of Henry E.
"Hike" and Margaret Elsie Paden Lewis. Dorothy grew up in the Bala and Riley communities until moving to Topeka. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1939.
After graduating from Strickler Business School, Dorothy moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the Department of Navy from 41-43. She moved back to Topeka and had worked for Capper's until 1945. Later she worked for the Pottawatomie-Wabaunsee Regional Library and the State of Kansas. Mrs. Raine had been a volunteer at the Topeka V.A. Hospital. She was a member of the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church and had been a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
On August 4,1945 she was married to Frank E. Say Jr. at Topeka.
He preceded her in death in 1960. She later married Joe M. Raine on July 29,1968 at Maple Hill. He preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Margaret Billings in 1998, and a grandson, Brad Say in 2001.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (Bobby) Cooper, Topeka; a step-daughter Ruth (Don) Rogers, Topeka; a son, Rod (Judy) Say, Topeka; step-sons, Bill (Linda) Raine, Topeka and Art (Tamara) Raine, Belle Vista, AR; grandchildren, Brian Say, Shawn (Sharlene) Cooper, Shane (Tammy) Cooper, Darren (Penny) Cooper, David (Amy) Cooper and Casey (Alicia) Cooper; step-grandchildren, Mollie (Jim) McCammon, Todd (Dana) Raine, Troy Raine, John Rogers and Jared Rogers; 14 great-grand¬children; 4 step-great grandchildren; a great-great-grand¬daughter and a step great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church with graveside services to follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Riley Cemetery, Riley. Mrs. Raine will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Friday, Sep¬tember 18, 2009 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, the Diabetes Learning Center or the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
