Obituary- Reser, Gladys
GLADYS RESER ENDS HER LIFE WITH CARBOLIC ACID
The people of Rossville and sur¬rounding community were saddened Tuesday by the second tragic death within two days of home people when the news spread of the death of Miss Gladys Reser, who ended her life at her home 3 miles northwest of Rossville by drinking a quantity of car¬bolic acid. The drug was taken from a bottle of the poison that been in the home for several years.
Mr. and Mrs. Mont Reser, her par¬ents, had gone to Topeka in the fore¬noon, and Gladys remained at home to attend to the household duties.
The girl was found lying uncon¬scious in her bed by the younger children when they returned from school about 4:30. The drug had been taken several hours before the arrival of the children. The girl had screwed the cap back on the bottle and set it by the bed. The door of her room had been barricaded by books. The children summoned Mrs. Cecil Lemon and she phoned to town for a doctor. Dr. Smith and Dr. Mil¬ler both went out but she died short¬ly after their arrival.
Miss Reser left no note explaining her act and her relatives are unable to furnish a motive. She had been working in St. Marys for some time and returned to her home two weeks ago.
Gladys was born September 19th, 1906, in this community, and at the date of her decease was 19 years, 11 months and 12 days old. She pro¬fessed faith in Christ in June, 1913, under the ministry of Rev. Bauman of the Silver Lake Methodist church and united with the Walnut Hill congregation of the M.E. church.
She graduated from the Silver Lake high school with the class of 1924. Since her graduation she had been taking a business course by cor¬respondence. Gladys had many friends and was loved by everyone who knew her well. She was always very anxious to know more about the teaching of the Word of God.
The funeral service was held at the Rossville M. E. church this afternoon at two o’clock, con¬ducted by Rev. M. Brooks, of Silver Lake with whom she made her home during her school days in Silver Lake Interment was made in Rossville cemetery.
The pallbearers were all former classmates and included: Misses Ruth Stanley, Mildred Parr, Vivian James and Alverta Lemon, of Rossville, Ella Moser, Pansy Ramer, Corean Lower of Silver Lake.
The church was filled with sym¬pathizing friends and relatives and many were unable to find room in the church. Prof. Geo. T. Codding, of Silver Lake, high school was ac companied to the funeral by a num¬ber of students of the Silver Lake school who were classmates of Miss Reser.
