Obituary- Berkey, W.B.
Russell – W.B. “Pete” Berkey, 79, Russell, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at a Russell hospital.
Mr. Berkey owned and operated Berkey Electric in Russell until he retired in the early 1980s. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Sept. 1, 1916, at Rossville, the son of Francis Guy and Margaret Cottle Berkey. He moved with his family to Russell while he was a young boy and he was graduated from Russell High School.
Mr. Berkey was a member of First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge, and he was a life member of both of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Russell.
He was married to Izetta E. Radke on Feb. 3, 1939, at Russell. She survives.
Other survivors include a brother, Robert Berkey, Denver; and two sisters, Lucy Macha, Topeka, and Sally Hill, Sunland, Calif.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pohlman’s Memorial Chapel at Russell. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or to the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary.
