William Ross
AUBURN — William D. “Bill” Ross, 71, Auburn, died Monday, Dec. 18,2000, at home.

Mr. Ross farmed in the Dover and Auburn area, and was a self-employed drywall finisher and contractor before he retired. He also raised and was a breeder of homing pigeons and rabbits. He served six years in the Marine Corps.

He was born Sept. 16,1929, in Topeka, the son of William Clair and Agnes Gertrude Kidman Ross. He moved with his family to Santa Barbara, Calif., when he was 6 years old, and he graduated from high school in California. He moved back to the Dover and Auburn area in 1949.

Mr. Ross was an avid raccoon and coyote hunter. He was a member of the Mo-Kan Combine Pigeon Racing Group, the Topeka Racing Pigeon Club and the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

He married Grace Margaret Henderson on March 11,1950, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survives include four sons, Greg Ross and Clay Ross, both of Topeka, Doug Ross, Harveyville, and John Ross, Rossville; four daughters, Shelly Ross, Silver Lake, Kelly Ross and Bobbi Wendt, both of Topeka, and Billi Jones, Auburn; and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Ross was preceded in death by a grand-child, Azure Fisher, in 1981.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Auburn Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery west of Auburn. Mr. Ross will lie in state from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
