John Scheidegger
John Scheidegger was born in a small log cabin on the Scheidegger homestead in the Dry Branch neighborhood west of Humboldt, Nebr. October 5, 1866, the seventh child of Niklas and Anna Scheidegger. He passed away in Holton, Kansas, Feb. 9, 1950, at the age of 83 years, four months and four days.

His education was limited to that of the family fireside, the Dry Branch public school and the German Reformed Sunday School and church in which he was confirmed and a communicant.

Reaching maturity Mr. Scheidegger was united in marriage to Miss Arminda Seitz of Humboldt, Neb., and to this union was born two children, Henry Scheidegger and Mrs. Earl Argo, both of Holton. After 11 years, and due to a rift in the marital life of the family, Mr. Scheidegger, with his two children moved to a farm near Delia, in 1904, and with the exception of three years residence in western Nebraska, has resided in Jackson County since that time, retired to Holton in 1946.

In 196 he was married to Miss Edith Lenore Boop who has been his constant companion these many years.

Of a family of ten children born of hardy pioneer emigrants there are two sisters remaining, Mrs. Drusilla Rasmussen of Limon, Colo., and Mrs. Nettie Simecka of Delia, Kansas.

Besides his wife, his two children and his two sisters, he leaves five granddaughters, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. His grandson, Clinton Argo, was killed while serving in the armed forces during the Second World War.

Mr. Scheidegger was a quiet, unassuming man, and although his activities were confined mainly to his home and family, he contributed as liberally as he could to every worthy cause in the life of his community and his country.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, at the Mercer Funeral Home. Music was furnished by Miss Chrystine Stoll and Mrs. Everett Shields, Rev. Travis Siever officiating. Burial was made in the Holton cemetery. 16 Feb. 1950

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Immenschuh and John Simecka drove to Holton Sunday to attend the funeral service of their uncle, John Scheidegger.
