Obituary- Berkey, Francis 2
F. G. BERKEY
Francis Guy, son of Charles and Ellen (Maust) Berkey, was born December 16, 1886 at Rossville, Kansas. His death occurred at the City Hospital in Russell, Kansas, on February 13, 1968 at 12:30 a. m. His age was 81 years, 1 month, and 28 days.
A resident of Russell since 1917, Guy received his education and training in the Rossville community. In 1910 he was united in marriage to the former Margaret Cuttle. Here were 8 children born to this marriage, two of whom preceded the parents in death. He engaged in carpentry work for a number of years and then took up Railroading. In 1917 he came with his family to Russell where he was Signal Maintainer for the U. P. Railroad until his retirement in 1953. After the death of his wife on December 29, 1924 he centered his interests in his home and family.
Active in church, fraternal and community projects, he was instrumental in founding the present Christian Church in Russell and as a charter member, elder and Sunday School teacher since the church was organized, he truly served the Lord. A faithful member of the Masonic Lodge, he received his 50 year pin several years ago. In 1933 he remarried, to the former Elsie Morris who has stood by his side through the years as a helpmate, companion and step-mother.
