Maye E. Seeley-Swanson, Topeka, formerly of Cameno Island, Wis., died March 12, 1994 at a Topeka retirement home after a short illness.

She was born at Boscobel, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Rhoda Ann Dowling-Seeley. The family moved to Decatur County in 1906 and in 1911 settled in the Grove community near Topeka.

She graduated from Delia High School and received her state teachers certificate. Mrs. Swanson taught elementary school in Kansas and Washington for over 40 years and was a government employee at the Bremerton Washington Navel Shipyard during the war.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past Matron of the Eastern Star, a member of Grange and the Democratic party.

She was married to Gale Roach of Muscotah. He preceded her in death. She married Edwin Swanson of Washington State. He also preceded her in death in 1964. She returned to Topeka in 1981. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Smith and Maude Bausch and three brothers, Elmer Seeley, Dow Seeley and Ivan Seeley.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Cremation is planned. Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21. Burial will be held at the Muscotah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Northern Area Office, 1315 S.W. Arrowhead Road, Topeka, 66604, or to organization of donor’s choice.
