Obituary- Simecka, Richard

Richard D. "Dick" Simecka
Richard D. "Dick" Simecka, 79, Topeka, died Thursday, December 14,2006 at the VA Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born February 14,1927 at Delia, the son of William B. and Regina M. Rezac Simecka. He graduated from St. Marys High School and received degrees in Business Administration and Education from Baker University and Kansas State University. Mr. Simecka served in the United States Army Air Corp during W.W. II.

Dick was an Educator in Eastern Kansas. He taught arid coached in Delia, coached in St. Marys, was a teacher in Belvue, a principal at Havensville and was the Superintendent at Onaga and Royal Valley Schools.

He was a member of the Methodist faith. He also was a member of the American Legion in St. Marys, the Citizens Potawatomi Nation and AARP.

He was married to Rita Straub. He later was married to Carla Tilford. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Lori Martini, Manhattan, sons, Chuck Simecka, Topeka and Alan Simecka, Edgerton; a sister, Betty Simecka, Lawrence; brothers, Dr. William Simecka, Henderson, NV, Karl Simecka, Boulder City, NV, Don Simecka, Ft. Collins, CO and Terry Simecka, St. Marys; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys where a military detail team will conduct graveside services. Mr. Simecka will lie in state after 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Piper Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Nursing Facility for a memorial garden and sent in care of the funeral home.
