Laura Sommers
DELIA -- Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church here for Mrs. Laura Irene Sommers, 47, Delia, who died Tuesday at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital.
She had scleroderma, a skin ailment, and suffered a stroke at the hospital about an hour before she died.
She was born August 24, 1918, at Bunker Hill in Russell County, the daughter of Clarence and Laura Peck. She attended elementary and high schools in Bunker Hill and business college at Salina. She was employed by the Kansas State Corporation Commission in Topeka 26 years.
Topeka Resident
She lived in Topeka from 1950 to 1952. Later she lived in the Sandy Hook community southeast of St. Marys seven years before moving to a farm near Delia six years ago.
She was married to Donald A. Sommers Sept. 30, 1950, at Tucumcari, N.M.
Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Donna Kay Sommers, and two sons, Michael Sommers and Mitchel Sommers, all at home; her father, Clarence S. Peck, Bunker Hill; a sister, Mrs. Fern Whatley, Monroe, La.; and three brothers, Clarence W. Peck, Barberton, Ohio, and Ralph Peck and Wayne Peck, both of Bunker Hill.
Burial at Bunker Hill
Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Sommers will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys and from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delia Presbyterian Church.
