Harriett A. Stafford
Harriett A. Stafford, 86, of Topeka, died June 1, 2013 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 7,1927, the daughter of Peter and Alice (Barrett) Miller.

Harriett graduated from Topeka High School. She worked for Luce Press Clippings, Pelletier’s and then for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, where she worked in the Arson Division. She loved humor, riding motorcycles, flying, cooking, family occasions, and loved animals. She was a KISS fan and was a ballerina in her youth. Harriett was a former member of the Eastern Star.

She married Claude E. "Doc" Stafford on October 18, 1947 in Rossville, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Harriett is survived by a daughter, Vicki Stafford-Looka (Lorin) of Topeka, a son Terry Stafford (Sheryl) of Topeka, 2 grandchildren, Natalie and Hilarie Stafford, and 5 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Evan, Nathan, Alan, and Halie. She was also preceded in death by six siblings.

Harriett will lie in state on Monday after 2:00 p.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House or to the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
