Obituary- Steele, Clifford


Clifford E. Steele
Clifford E. Steele, 82, St. Marys, died Monday, January 14, 1991, at the Rossville Valley Manor, where he had lived since 1977.

He was born November 18, 1908, in rural Maple Hill to Charles and Esther Hallquist Steele.

Mr. Steele was a fanner in the St. Marys area. He also worked for the Rezac Sale Bam and Thompson Alfalfa Mill Dehydrator. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church.

He was married to Willa Wilson October 25, 1933, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kay Lenherr, Topeka; two sons, Norman Steele, Manhattan, and Duane Steele, Osage City; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Harold Steele, St. Marys; and two sisters, Almeda Carlson, Kansas City, Mo., and Adaline Rademacher, Prairie Village.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (this evening) at Verschelden Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery.

The family requests memorials to the St. Marys United Methodist Church or Rossville Valley Manor.


Clifford E. Steele
ST. MARYS — Clifford E. Steele,
82, St. Marys, died Monday, Jan. 14,
1991, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. Steele was a farmer. He also had worked at Thompson Alfalfa Dehydrating plant and Rezac Sale Barn in St. Marys.

He was born Nov. 18, 1908, near
Maple Hill in Wabaunsee County, the son of Charles and Esther Hallquist Steele. He spent his life in the St. Marys area.

Mr. Steele was a member of the former Swedish Lutheran Church in St. Marys.

He was married to Willa Wilson Oct. 25, 1933, in Topeka. She survives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Mr. Steele will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in St. Marys or to Rossville Valley Manor in Rossville.
