Obituary- Stephan, Roland
Lt. Roland Curtis "Steve" Stephan
Lt. Roland Curtis "Steve" Stephan, 81, a resident of the Rossville and Willard area, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 3, 1927 in Nortonville, the son of Harvey Lee and Hazel Pauline Curtis Stephan. He had lived in the Rossville/Willard area since 1972.
Steve served in the US Navy for 27 years before retiring in 1972. After his retirement, he attended Clark’s School of Business. He worked for a while for Rossville Insurance Agency.
He was a member of Topeka North Post #400 American Legion, FRA, MOAA, PVA, DAV, Cryptologic Association. He also served as President of the Resident Council of Building 6 VAMC.
He married Katherine C. "Pat" Collins on Feb. 6, 1952 in Arlington, VA. She died April 4,1995.
Survivors include his daughter, Joan M. Temple of the home, and a son, James Lee Stephan of Gulf Breeze, FL.; three grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Stephan of Lajunta, CO; two sisters, Verna Mae Young of Galena, KS and Donis Reser of Kansas City, MO.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the All Faiths Chapel at the VA Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Living Center, Building 6, Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center, 2100 SW Gage Blvd., 66622.
