Obituary- Stovall, Emma
Emma Stovall
Mrs. Emma Stovall, widow of the late Aaron Stovall, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.L. Whearty, northwest of Rossville. She had been in ill health for many months and failed rapidly the last few weeks of her life.
Emma Isabel Deitz was born in the state of Indiana, February 28, 1857, aged 71 years, 4 months and 18 days, at the date of her death.
When a small child she moved with her parents to Windsor, Ill., and grew to womanhood at this place.
In 1881 she was married to Lewis C. Johnson and two children. Stella and Ella were born to this union. In 1883 the family removed to Western Kansas, and in 1888 the family came to Rossville and she had resided here until her death. She become a widow in 1887.
In 1890 she was married to Aaron R. Stovall of Rossville. Three children, Earl, Emma and Anna were born to this union.
Mrs. Stovall united with the Methodist church early in her life and was a devoted member until her death.
Her death is mourned by five children, Mrs. Stella Henderson, Lawrence; Mrs. Ella Whearty, A.E. Stovall of Rossville; Mrs. Emma Ausherman, Elmont; and Miss Anna Stovall, Topeka; one foster son Alfred Stovall, McFarland, Kansas; foster daughters, Mrs. Etta Wallace and Mrs. Ida Navarre, of Topeka, and one sister, Mrs. Melissa Bartlett, Silver Lake, Kansas.
She was a very devoted mother and leaves a host of friends whom she delighted to serve.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Rossville Methodist church, conducted by Rev. G.G. Horne, of Topeka. Interment was made in the family lot in Rossville cemetery.
